Our Story
The Urbana Museum of Photography is dedicated to preserving and advancing analog photography through professional laboratory services, traditional printing, and curated exhibitions.
Our museum houses a permanent collection alongside rotating exhibitions while providing film processing and custom printing for photographers of all experience levels.
Whether you're developing a disposable camera or preparing exhibition prints, every project receives the same level of craftsmanship and care.
Gallery
The Gallery is both an exhibition space and the home of the Urbana Museum of Photography's permanent collection. Through thoughtfully curated exhibitions and an expanding archive of original photographs, negatives, cameras, and photographic ephemera, we preserve the rich history of analog photography while celebrating its continued relevance today. Visitors can experience works by influential photographers including Margaret Bourke-White, Minor White, Don McCullin, Judy Dater, Harold Feinstein, Danny Lyon, O. Winston Link, Arthur Rothstein, William F. Heick, and other significant voices in photographic history, alongside exhibitions featuring exceptional contemporary and regional photographers.
Darkroom
The Darkroom is a fully operational analog workspace dedicated to preserving the traditional craft of photographic printing. Although film development is an essential part of the process, our greatest emphasis is placed on the creation of the final print. In the darkroom, artistic intent, technical mastery, and careful interpretation converge to transform a negative into a finished photograph. This approach forms the foundation of our educational programs and hands-on instruction.
Photo Lab
Our Photo Lab provides a full range of analog photographic services for photographers, artists, and archives. We offer black-and-white and color film processing, custom silver gelatin printing, professional scanning, contact sheets, and other photographic services designed to support every stage of the analog process. Whether your goal is preservation, exhibition, or everyday film processing, we are committed to delivering exceptional results with the care and craftsmanship that define traditional photography.
